Relaunch for Community Awards

The Kilcullen Community Awards are to be revived this year after being suspended in 2020 because of the pandemic, writes Brian Byrne. The last awards were presented in 2019
At the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, which organises the event, the group’s chair Ann Cashman said somebody is needed to ‘champion’ the relaunch of the awards. “Maybe we need to look at new kinds of awards,” she said. “And, for instance, do they need to capture what was going on during Covid, or just recent activities?”
She asked the group to spend some time to ‘get their heads around’ the matter.
Traditionally the awards are divided into two sections, Tidy Towns awards for businesses and estates, and Community awards to individuals and groups who have contributed in some way to enhancing life in the town.
There was some discussion on whether to stick to the usual November date for the event, and it was decided to firm up the details at future meetings. The chair welcomed the decision to revive the event, saying it is always a fabulous night.
