No Maggie and Fred this Easter

Maggie and Fred and friends in 2021

The Easter Bunnies Maggie and Fred which have been a feature of downtown Kilcullen in recent years will not be in town for this Easter season, writes Brian Byrne
The February open meeting of Kilcullen Community Action heard they are no longer available, despite a degree of ’TLC’ given to the pair last year.
The bunnies, created by artist Pat Munnelly in 2021 on commission from KCA, were last placed outside the former Bank of Ireland premises for Easter 2022, but were damaged by vandals (below).  KCA chair Ann Cashman told the meeting that despite repair work, they can’t be used again. “They do have a limited lifespan,” she noted.

Last year a pink cutout bunny was placed at the CPC gates by KCA to mark the festival. “We need to get down to organising Easter details now,” Ann Cashman reminded those present, in the light of it being an early Easter in 2024. “The year will be getting shorter.”
