Ivan Keatley running again for Athy MD council seat

Cllr Ivan Keatley and Athy resident Brian Kenny have been selected by the members of Fine Gael in the Athy Local Electoral area to contest the upcoming Local Elections. The selection convention took place at the Clanard Court Hotel on Tuesday 6 February.

Cllr Keatley has represented the Athy electoral area continuously since his co-option in 2011. A native of Ballymount and a St Laurence's stalwart, he has prioritised improvements in local public transport, securing the 880 bus route for his local area and fighting for improvements to local roads.

Brian Kenny has a strong track record of community involvement and employment support through his work with the County Kildare Leader Partnership.  He is the current manager of Clonmullion FC and sees huge potential for improvements in Athy with the Barrow Blueway due to open soon and the opportunity to attract more visitors to the town.

Minister Martin Heydon TD has welcomed the pair's confirmation by Fine Gael members, describing them as "very strong candidates, both active in their communities with strong sporting links and a desire to help others."
