New university scholarships in forestry
A scholarship programme for students of forestry at third level was launched today by Coillte, the semi-state forestry company, writes Brian Byrne. The scheme will provide up to €20,000 each to two students over their 4-year course at either UCD or South East Technological University (SETU).
Up to 1,770 forestry and wood processing jobs will be needed to complete Ireland's Forest Strategy. The industry is seen as an important part of the delivery of Ireland's climate action goals, and surveys suggest that this work is a key attraction to those seeking a career in the sector.
Further details of the Coillte Scholarship Programme are available at coillte.ie, and each scholarship recipient will also be offered the opportunity of paid summer employment in Coillte for the duration of the scholarship. On completion of the degree, they will have the opportunity to join Coillte.
Applications can be completed online from 1 February and the closing date for receipt of applications is 28th April 2024.
