Library wall paint job
A very nice paint job on the Library wall, courtesy of the Kildare Library Service, writes Brian Byrne. It certainly freshens up the road to the church.
And when you're passing, take a moment to read the card inset in capping of the wall, which relates a story of St Brigid from the locality, written by a local child in the 1930s and part of the National Folklore Collection.
The card is a miniature version of a range illustrated and produced by local graphic artist Niamh O'Connor for Kilcullen Community Action to go with the new biodiversity signage in The Valley. Each one is based on a local entry in the Schools Project organised in the 1930s by the National Folklore Commission, itself found in 1935 under the leadership of Séamus Ó Duilearga. The biodiversity signs were also produced by Niamh.
The miniatures of the Valley signs can be found at various places around the town, and chasing them up would make a nice treasure hunt for local children (and their parents).
