Holistic therapies offered in Kilcullen

A complementary therapies treatment room has been established in Kilcullen by a Spanish lady resident in the town, writes Brian Byrne. Sonia Estevez offers holistic reflexology and reiki therapies with the aim of helping people reducing stress and anxieties in their lives that contribute to a range of disorders.
Sonia came to Ireland almost 20 years ago with a view to improving her language skills. After meeting the man who became her husband, she stayed and developed a career in the tourism sector. They married and Sonia subsequently devoted herself full time to raising their family.
"In recent years I began to think about returning to work, but wanted to do something that I could integrate with my personal life and family," she told the Diary. "I had always been interested in holistic therapies, so I did the courses, first in reiki and later in reflexology." Initially it was to do it for herself, family and friends, but then she decided to offer the treatments professionally.
The family moved to Kilcullen a few years ago, and Sonia has now established a dedicated treatment room for her services. "At this point, I'm very excited, because it is amazing and very rewarding to be able to help people to feel better with complementary therapies."
Reiki is an energy healing technique using gentle touch or placing hands just above the body to bring into balance the person’s energy. The treatment is said to provide deep relaxation and reduces stress, enhancing mental clarity and emotional release.
Reflexology is a relaxing feet massage based on the principle that our feet are the mirror of our body where we can find reflex points of all our body systems and organs. By applying gentle pressure on these points, the massage brings the person to a very relaxing state and activates the body own healing process. Practitioners say it can help with sleep disorders, relieve pains and aches, and boosts the immune system.
"It can also help babies with colic, reflux or teething pain," Sonia says, adding that children and teenagers with asthma, nasal congestion, or inability to concentrate can also benefit from it.
