Surrogacy and custody themes in Riverbank play
A play based around the lack of regulation of surrogacy in Ireland will be staged at the Riverbank Arts Centre on Thursday 15 February. Featuring Louth-born actor Anthony Kinahan, Unguarded tells the story of a widower, Stephen, trying to raise their son Tadhg alone following the death of his partner Conor.
Tadhg was born by surrogacy, and with Stephen only regarded as a guardian under Irish law, his former partner's family are trying to get custody of Tadhg while he struggles to juggle work and single parenthood.
Unguarded is directed by Anna Simpson and was developed under the Droichead Arts Centre Artist in Association in 2021, with the support of the Arts Council of Ireland.
Tickets are priced €18/€16 and can be booked through the Box Office, either in person or by telephone on 045 448327 Monday to Friday 9.30am-5pm (closed for lunch 2-2.30) and Saturday 10am-1pm. Tickets can also be booked 24/7 on www.riverbank.ie, subject to €1 booking fee per ticket.
