Kildare Town has Brigid art trail

More than 60 pieces of art from Irish and international artists are being exhibited by Kildare Town businesses until 19 February, as part of the town's celebration of Brigid 1500, writes Brian Byrne. The artworks are on show in the windows of 20 businesses in the town centre, creating an open air 'gallery' trail which can be followed by visitors.
The initiative is led by the Sult Artists collective, and was opened yesterday by Dr Niamh Wycherley, who has studied St Brigid extensively. The selection for the exhibition, titled Unravelling an Icon, Celebrating and Remembering Brigid and her Legacy, is from 215 pieces submitted by artists from England, Wales, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Ethiopia, Australia, Japan, Canada, USA and New Zealand as well as from across Ireland. The pieces are across a wide range of art and craft media, in the theme of the traditions, customs and symbols associated with Brigid’s legacy.
A high-quality, limited-edition catalogue of the selected artworks and this will be available during the celebrations to mark Brigid’s anniversary.
The exhibition is supported by Kildare County Council and Kildare Credit Union.
