Carol Service in St Patrick's

There will be a Carol Service on Friday evening, 15 December, in St Patrick's Church, Carnalway, which will be followed by refreshments, writes Brian Byrne. The service starts at 7.30pm and all are welcome.
The occasion will also give people an opportunity to look at the famous stained glass window by Harry Clarke, a highlight decorative feature in the church, along with the Sir Ninian Comper Transfiguration window and reredos behind the altar. Comper was Scottish and one of the last great Gothic Revival architects.
Harry Clarke's creation is officially the La Touche Memorial Window and features St Hubert, the patron saint of hunters, mathematicians, opticians and metalworkers.
In 2006, An Post released a stamp to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the death of Harry Clarke, featuring Hubert.
As an aside, all but one of the stained glass windows in the Kilcullen Parish Church were made by Joshua Clarke, Harry Clarke's father.
