Road Safety Week 2023 begins today


The Road Safety Authority's Shuttle is visiting two Kildare schools this week as part of Road Safety Week 2023 which begins today, writes Brian Byrne.
The Shuttle is large mobile unit where visitors can participate in an interactive, educational road safety experiences. It will visit Curragh Community College, The Curragh, today 2 October and Kildare Town Community School, Kildare Town, from tomorrow 3 October until Thursday. 
Among the events of Road Safety Week, which runs until next Sunday, is Tyre Safety Day today. As part of this, Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA) members around Ireland are inviting all motorists to call in for a FREE tyre pressure check and thread depth inspection during the week. A visit to www.itia.ie  will lead motorists to their nearest ITIA registered dealer. A booklet, Your Guide to Tyre Safety, is available to download
Friday 6 October is National Child Safety Day. It's a chance for pre-schoolers to get involved in road safety. Over 40,000 high visibility vests have been distributed to pre-schools nationwide in advance of this week.
