Kildare County Council is being asked to identify locations in the wider Kilcullen area where sand can be stored to be distributed on roads by farmers during icy snaps, writes Brian Byrne.
The request is being made by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer at the next meeting of the Kildare-Newbridge MD by way of motion. The councillor wants the sand stored for distribution at known locations where icy roads continue to cause accidents on a regular basis. These locations include Kennycourt, Carnalway Bridge, Sunnyhill Road, Yellowbog Bridge and at Gormanstown Church.
Cllr O'Dwyer says the sand would be distributed voluntarily by local farmers when necessary at locations that, due to lack of funding, Council trucks cannot stretch to.
