Packed programme for 35th Gerard Manley Hopkins International Festival
The keynote event of the 35th Gerard Manley Hopkins International Festival in Newbridge next month is a celebrity concert by Hans PĂ„lsson, regarded as Sweden's greatest pianist, writes Brian Byrne.
The week-long event centred in Newbridge College will run from Friday 21 July to Thursday 27th, and will be opened by the US Ambassador to Ireland, Claire Cronin.
The festival, inaugurated by Kildare poet Des Egan, will include a writing workshop, lectures, poetry with music events, songwriting, and a nature walk. There will also be an associated programme for Leaving Cert 2024 students.
The Festival celebrates the life and work of Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844-1889) and his interests in poetry, painting, music, philosophy and conservation.
