Sunglasses are an essential eyes protection

The importance of protecting eyes from the harmful effects of ultra-violet rays is at the core of the first of three articles about sunglasses by Kilcullen Optometrist Nichola Kennedy in advance of the launch of their 2023 Sun Eyewear Collection on 15 April.
But all sunglasses are not equal, and depending on ones not properly designed could do more harm than good, Nichola says. Sunglasses that don't meet the CE standard for filtering UV in a quality optical lens can leave eyes more open to damage that can include cataracts, cancer, or corneal sunburn. So, a piece of tinted plastic doesn't hack it in terms of protection.
The article details other advantages of investing in quality sunglasses, such as improved vision, wearing comfort, and money-saving durability.
And now that spring has sprung and we're heading into hay fever season, Nichola notes that sunglasses can also help, both in deflecting some pollens and other allergens from getting into the eyes and also reducing glare on eyes made more sensitive to bright sunlight.
Upcoming articles will deal with sunglasses lens types and frame styling.
