New lease for Community Centre campus nearly ready

A new all-encompassing lease for the Kilcullen Community Centre campus is ‘getting to the end game’ the recent AGM of the facility heard, writes Brian Byrne.
Chairman Ronan Murphy outlined the background to the matter, observing that while there was a 1,000-year lease on the centre building itself, other parts of the campus were either on short agreements or weren’t registered anywhere. He gave the example of the All Weather Pitch, the lease on which has only 15 years remaining, a matter which impacts grant aid.
He told the meeting that since first raising the matter with the Cross & Passion sisters in 2015, it had been decided to ‘make one solid lease’. “The sisters have been most cooperative, with Sr Máire helping to get it across the line,” he said. “It involves the Land Registry Office and digging up old maps and dealing with things that weren’t done right — a couple of little pockets of land weren’t registered and it’s been a bit painful getting there.”
However, he said the final lease is almost at the point of drafting, and he was hopeful that in three or four months it would be completed.
