Community Centre income up, cost savings made in 2022
The underlying yearly revenue to Kilcullen Community Centre for 2022 was about 30pc better than the previous year, the recent AGM of the facility was told, writes Brian Byrne.
In his Manager’s Report for the year, Enda O’Neill predicted that 2023 will turn out to be the centre’s ‘best year to date’, and will be the first full year to remain open since 2019.
He said that if the income from the Coffee Hatch initiative was included, overall revenue for 2022 would be up by 141pc.
He noted that the company’s Savings Account target of €50,000 by the end of 2022 had been exceeded by €5,000, and that it was hoped to increase this to €65,000 by year’s end.
On cost savings, he said that changing over from oil to wood pellets has resulted in a reduction of heating operating costs by a third compared to 2019. He also noted a cut in insurance premiums by approximately 23pc, through changing to an insurer specialising in community centres.
“The enterprise continues to grow, and this is down to the hard work and dedication of all of the staff,” he said, and told the meeting the centre now employs two more part-time caretaking staff members. This brings the full staff complement to one full-time and sic part-time, which ‘is very good for the community’.
Discussions are in train on Community Employment staff and with the Kildare Leader Partnership about employing two people under the TUS Government scheme.
