Busy badminton weekend
It's going to be a busy weekend at Kilcullen Community Centre, with Kildare Badminton Association hosting their annual Westside Badminton Tournament, writes Enda O'Neill.
There will be more than 150 participants in the competition being held over the Saturday and Sunday with some fantastic matches promised. Why not pop down, grab a coffee and have a look at some of our future badminton internationals?
Meanwhile the Centre today hosted the IOHA (Irish Olympic Handball Organisation) Kildare County Finals for Under 11 Boys and Girls. Scoil Bhride, Kildare Town, Gaelscoil Mhic Aodha and SN Colmcil were battling it out for a place in the All Ireland Finals being held in April. Olympic Handball is an indoor sport where teams of 5 vs 5 (or 7 vs 7) play against each other. The aim of the game is to score as many goals as you can in a match, each half consisting of 6 minutes. Each player can only take 3 steps before having to bounce the ball and a player can score from anywhere on the court.
