Pulpit returns to a place in the church

For some reason it doesn't look nearly as large as it did when it was in its original position, but the pulpit now at the back of the church does look well, writes Brian Byrne.
It was placed there earlier this week by a crew supervised by Billy Redmond, who has campaigned for eight years to have the edifice brought back into the church from the shed where it was stored for decades.
The pulpit and its figures were sculpted by the father of Irish revolutionary Padraic Pearse, and the piece has been in the church since at least the turn into the 1900s, as it appears in photographs taken around that time now in the Lawrence Collection.
The Diary understands that the corner it is in now may not be its final location in the church, but it should be a point of interest for many who come along on Sunday to participate in the 150th anniversary celebrations for the church building.
Some may even remember it being the place of focus for many a sermon, listings of parish dues payments, and dire fire and brimstone warnings during Parish Mission weeks.
