GAA development plans showcased
Kilcullen GAA are hoping to start work on their 'Field of Dreams' development next April, subject to the planning process going through without delays, writes Brian Byrne.
That was the view expressed by the chairman of the club's Development Committee, Martin Murphy, at a presentation of the plans for the initiative this afternoon.
The development, which will be carried out on a phased basis, will include a second full-sized pitch and two pitches for Juveniles. A skills arena and new larger car park are also planned.
There will also be a public walk and cycleway around the perimeter of the enlarged club property. The project will be built on eight acres between the existing club and the Avondale estate, acquired from Kildare County Council in a land swap.
The initiative has been costed at just under a million euro and Martin Murphy outlined funding activities already in train. He said a loan will also be taken out from the national GAA organisation, but it will require significant effort from all club members and support from the community to complete the development.
After the presentation there was a barbecue for the large attendance at the clubhouse, which has been upgraded with new doors and refurbished at a recent weekend of volunteers work.
