Green area management grows biodiversity colour
The ecological advantages of managing green areas are currently visible at Nicholastown, in a range of colourful wild flowers.
According to Ray Kelly of Kilcullen Community Action, managing and cutting back grass areas at intervals allows smaller native flowers and plants to grow.
"It also prevents grass from flattening and lodging on the ground," he posted on the KCA Facebook page — if that happens it prevents these flowers and broadleaves from emerging.
KCA has a comprehensive Biodiversity Action Plan operating across Kilcullen's public and residential areas.
