Weatherday: Elephant in the cafe

Raising the Dun Ailinne sculpture (2008).

A dry and sunny start. Cloud building over lunchtime, bringing a small risk of showers.
Temperatures up to 19deg in moderate breezes from the south, veering westerly and easing to light. It will continue humid.
On this day in 1903, Dublin Zoo's elephant Sita killed her keeper when he was applying ointment to her sore foot. She was subsequently shot dead by the police. James McNally is buried in Glasnevin Cemetery, while Sita's foot was preserved and was used as an umbrella stand in the Zoo's cafeteria.
