The Dun Ailinne Summer Field Group 2022 of archaeology students have arrived in Kilcullen and will begin their work on Monday, writes Brian Byrne.
The three-week trip is again under the direction of Dr Susan Johnston and her colleagues, who have been carrying out investigations on the ancient site outside Kilcullen since 2006.
Dr Johnston — based in the Department of Anthropology at George Washington University — has led teams of students on Dun Ailinne since 2016, who gain practical field experience on the site as well gaining an introduction to archaeology of Europe.
The latest group are pictured above today in the Heritage Centre, with members of their host families.
They come from all over the US, including California, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and the territory of Puerto Rico. One comes from Beijing, China.
We'll have another report later in the week.
NOTE: Dun Ailinne is on private property owned by the Thompson family and is not open to the public.
