First Responders seek registration of defibrillators
We are delighted to advise you that the Kilcullen First Responder Unit is back up and running with a strong team of seven first responders, writes Karen Cradock. The unit needs your help. If you have a defibrillator on your premises why not register it with the National Ambulance Service. You might ask why would I do that and there are a number of benefits to doing this?
• When someone calls 999, the ambulance dispatch can advise the caller where the nearest defibrillator is located and they can go and get it. This gives the person needing it the greatest chance of survival.
• The first responder from the Kilcullen First Responder Unit can call and collect the defibrillator when they go on a call, again giving the person greatest chance of survival.
As a unit we are working to collate and publish a list of all the registered defibrillators in the town so that we are all aware and ready to respond.
If you want to register your defibrillator simply email the following details to kilcullenfirstresponders@gmail.com
• Name of Scheme/Organisation/ Owner
• Address/ Location including county where AED can be accessed
• Eircode of business (this is essential)
• Reference point eg Church, Pharmacy, School etc
• Time AED is accessible eg 24/7, office hours Mon–Friday 9–5
• Access code for box/ Location of key if locked
We are delighted that Karl from KC Security has sponsored and installed a new key holder for the defibrillator outside the Credit Union. Karl kindly supplied a video on how to open it.
We will keep you updated in the coming weeks and introduce you to the team.
In case of emergency call 999 or 112.
