Tribute for 50 years of amateur drama

There was a surprise for longtime member of Kilcullen Drama Group John Martin last evening when he was made a presentation to mark 50 years of his work with the group, writes Brian Byrne.
Before curtain up for 'The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley', Nessa Dunlea paid tribute to him for his acting, directing, his playwright skills, and above all for the mentoring and guidance which he gave unstintingly to many actors and directors in amateur drama both in Kilcullen and at national level.
She outlined in a 'This is Your Theatre Life' capsule of recall some of the highlights of John's activities with the group. These included newspaper clippings and photographs relating to many of the shows with which he had been involved, and a list of 14 productions which he had directed or co-directed.
It was a few minutes of real nostalgia before the latest play from the troupe, founded in 1930, was presented to an audience which found that two years of being 'dark' had not dulled the ability of Kilcullen Drama Group to entertain hugely.
