Reports of Market Square project approval premature

Reports circulating online that the Kilcullen Public Realm project for the Market Square has been approved by Kildare County Council are premature, writes Brian Byrne.
Councillors in the Kildare-Newbridge MD have been inundated with calls today about the reports, which describe the Part 8 application by the Council as approved and ready to 'transform the town'.
But the Part 8 process has not been completed, and the Chief Executive's report on the recent public consultation has not yet been put before the councillors for approval, modification or refusal. This is scheduled for the Kildare-Newbridge MD meeting in June.
In addition, beyond that funding still has to be found for the project, which has been costed at €1.3 million. There is €200,000 in hand for it from a 2018 grant from the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
Pending approval and the availability of funding, a timeline date for completion of the project is currently estimated as Q3 2023.
