It Says in The Bridge: April 2022

The main story in this issue is a follow on from last month, with reflections from the submissions to the Market Square public consultation, writes Brian Byrne. The matter of truck traffic through the town was a live one in those submissions. But there's much more to ponder on too.
The centre spread is a much less crowded space, with a report from the exhibition by Kilcullen father-and-daughter artists Brad Gray and Della Cowper Gray in the Riverbank Arts Centre. It's 'A Hint of Gray' from amazing talents in our midst.
News items include Kilcullen's amazing talent for good cause fundraising, especially the €15,000 raised by Kilcullen Canoe Club for Ukraine refugee aid. Local man Paul Bell's fundraising for his ride in the upcoming Punchestown Kidney Research Fund race is another, as is of course the success of the recent Daffodil Day collection.
Other news includes the designation of ADHD-Friendly of the Cross and Passion College, the first school to win that accolade.
There's a very heartfelt tribute to the late Michael O'Connor, whose untimely passing shocked and saddened family and community. He 'made those of us he greeted feel all the better for having met him on days when we were lucky to do so' writes Sean O'Connor, a true summation of a man of 'charming demeanour and good humour'.
Among the regulars, Sean Landers looks back on the history of Grangemore that led to the shape of the area today. Julie Felsbergs ponders on the subject of refugees, from today's Ukraine crisis all the way back to the Flight into Egypt by the family of the young Jesus. Noel Clare's Out and Away series visits the Devil's Glen, and Cliona Kelliher's Living Sustainably page this month is about food waste.
No food waste in the Let's talk about Food recipe, which for April is on Greek Lamb and Macaroni Pasta Bake, from Armelle's Kitchen.
News from KCA brings us up to date on the wide range of that group's projects, and similarly we catch up with the KWWSPCA doings, which will include an Easter Egg Hunt and Dog Walk on Good Friday.
The 20 Questions and their answers come from Roy Thompson, who estimates the number of pairs of boots he owns is 'north of ten'.
There are photos from the recent production of 'Time of My Life' from CPC TY students, and from the rehearsals by Kilcullen Drama Group for their upcoming play 'The Two Loves of Gabriel Foley'. Likely to be a hoot.
The schools are all busy on their pages, St Bridget's Pitch and Putt represents sports, including Juvenile coaching.
And more. Still just €2 when the price of everything else is soaring.
Usual outlets. Enjoy.
