Early morning date at Dun Ailinne sculpture, Sunday

After two years of not having the traditional gathering at the Dun Ailinne sculpture to mark the spring and autumn equinoxes, the opportunity will be reinstated on Sunday, writes Brian Byrne.

All those who would like to wave a big hello to the rising sun on the morning should be there for sunrise at 6.27am.

Sometimes the magic of Noel Scullion's extraordinary sculpture doesn't work, because of uncooperative cloud cover, but as our photos above show, it has often been worth getting up early.

The other part of the tradition — tea, brown bread, and sausages courtesy of Nolans Butchers — are always worth having after the gathering, at 1060 Nicholastown.
