More 'Book of Kildare' pages go on display

A new exhibition in Kildare Town Library of the latest illuminated pages from the 'Book of Kildare' will be open through the month of February, writes Brian Byrne.

The works by artist and calligrapher Josephine Hardiman bring to 50 the number of pages for her project, which is her imagination and re-creation of the long-lost 'Book of Kildare' begun in 2016 when she illustrated some text from the ancient manuscript 'Book of Lismore' relating to Brigit, or Brigid.

Josephine plans to complete the project in time for the celebration of Brigid 1500, taking place in 2024. The current exhibition, part of Féile Bhríde 2022, was officially opened on Monday evening by Kildare historian and author Mario Corrigan.

Pictured are Mario Corrigan, Celine Broughal, Josephine Hardiman and Tom McCutcheon at the opening of the exhibition, and (below) one of the pages, An Dair Bheannaithe (the Sacred Oak).
