Large turnout for Ashling Murphy vigil
Up to 200 people turned out in Kilcullen this evening for a vigil held to honour the memory of Ashling Murphy, the young woman who died in Tullamore after being attacked while on a run, writes Brian Byrne.
One of similar vigils held across the county and the country, the event at the Dun Ailinne Interpretive Park at Nicholastown was a sombre one, with people gathering in silence to reflect on the tragedy.
A poem was read, a song performed, and a decade of the Rosary prayed at the half-hour vigil, with many of those attending — including children — leaving tea-light candles on the plinth of the spear sculpture.
