Presentations to Principal David Dempsey at Halverstown NS as he moves on
Special presentations were made to David Dempsey at St Joseph's NS Halverstown today to the Principal for the last four years, David Dempsey, writes Brian Byrne.
David is moving on to a new position in Newbridge, and all the pupils, teachers and staff in the Halverstown school turned out in the playground to wish him well.
He recalled his time in the small school environment as exceptionally happy, noting that he got to know even the pets' names among all the pupils. Though he remembered that his first day there didn't work out so well.
"I came with the Beast from the East and one of my first acts was to close the school because of the snow," he says. "In fact, I arrived on Pancake Tuesday and the pancakes they were making in the kitchen got burned and set off the fire alarm, so all the children were sent out to the yard with me as a distraction while the staff were all flying around trying the get the alarm off."
It was a personally eventful time too, as David and his wife Sarah were married and their first child Liam was born during his time in Halverstown.
In addition to a number of presentations from thethe staff, the Board of Management and the pupils, a group also sang Christmas carols to send him on his way.
