Kilcullen Design Statement project well underway
On Saturday 27th November, members of The Paul Hogarth Company and Kilcullen Community Action together welcomed local community into the Town Hall to listen to and discuss their thoughts on environmental, cultural, and socio-economic issues affecting Kilcullen, writes Suzanne Garrett of the Paul Hogarth Company. These face-to-face conversations are invaluable in helping deepen the understanding of what a Design Statement for Kilcullen will look like and successfully capture the shared aspirations for the town.
The consultation event helped launch this County Kildare Leader Partnership funded project which has already garnered huge local interest. Their recent online survey achieved an incredible response rate of over 600 people with 164 school children from both Scoil Bhríde and the Cross and Passion College having taken the time to share thoughts and hopes for ‘their’ Kilcullen. This ability to influence some of the things that affect them and help adults better understand issues and lived experiences through their lens is vital for the successful future of the town.
Next steps will include thematic workshops in January on various topics raised by the public through the survey such as sustainability & environment, transport, and business, amongst others. These will lead to publication of the Draft Design Statement and the second public consultation process, ensuring that everyone can contribute significantly and meaningfully before the Kilcullen Design Statement and Action Plan is finalised and launched later in the Spring.
The Paul Hogarth Company and Kilcullen Community Action would like to thank all of those who have got involved for their willingness to co-operate and it is hoped that the Kilcullen Design Statement will be a practical and useful resource in all endeavours to ensure that the voice of Kilcullen is heard and acted upon.
