The Old Kilcullen Area Community Association has warmly welcomed the provision of a feasibility and design grant this week for their Heritage Trail project, writes Brian Byrne.
The €45,000 grant came from the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Fund administered by the Department of Rural & Community Development, following an application through Kildare County Council.
"Having put so much into this project over the last two years, our committee are delighted and excited that Kildare County Council and the Department of Rural & Community Development have come on board to take this next step of a feasibility study and its potential to bring this heritage trail to reality," committee chairman Christy Howard said. "We realise there is much work to be done, but based on our plan as submitted, much of this trail is already there, and has been used by landowners, residents and walkers for many years."
On behalf of the committee, he also expressed thanks for the help of Cllrs Ivan Keatley, Tracey O'Dwyer and Rob Power and Minister Martin Hayden for all of their input and support to get the project off the ground.
