Councillors asked to help Donnelly fight date correction

Kildare-Newbridge councillors are being asked to lend their weight to requests for the a correction of the date on the Donnelly's Hollow plaque commemorating the Donnelly-Cooper fight in 1815, writes Brian Byrne.

The date on the commemoration stone says the fight took place on 13 December, but in fact it was a month earlier.

A motion from Monasterevin-based Cllr Noel Connolly for discussion at the next meeting of the MD asks that members write to An Roinn Cosanta asking them to correct the date.

Kildare local historian Mario Corrigan organised a petition last month on Change.org to have the Department of Defence make the change, saying that the 'date of the fight continues to be miscommunicated'.
