Scoil Bhríde Parent’s Association kicks off the 2021/22 School Year.

We have finished our first term of the new school year and the Parents Association at Scoil Bhríde has recommenced its work. Often the work of the Parents Association can be viewed as just a fundraising group, but it is much more than that. It is an opportunity to promote the interests of the children by working in partnership with the whole school community — the Principal, the Board of Management and the Parents/Guardians of the children, not to mention getting to know other parents and making good friends along the way.

If anything, Covid-19 has made everyone realise the importance of making a connection with other people and in particular, the connection with our school when it came to home-schooling.

Since March 2020, the Parents Association had to think outside the box. How could we support our children and the school in challenging times? We could no longer provide the reading programme to junior classes, the fruit day, the book fair, the Christmas fair, Graduation parties or the traditional Communion and Confirmation tea parties.

So, we switched to online meetings, turned the Christmas fair into an online Bumper Raffle (always supported by the local businesses), worked with the 6th class teachers to ensure the students had a fantastic farewell by arranging for Graduation Hoodies/goodie bags and treat bags for the Communion children so they did not miss the traditional tea party.

The efforts of everyone together raised €9,000 to provide additional supports to our children. Members of the Parents Association presented the funds to the school earlier this year.

Plans are already afoot for Covid safe events/fundraisers and we are always on the lookout for innovative ideas and members.
