On this day in 1957, the Royal Showband was launched in the Arundel Ballroom Waterford, supporting the headliners Clipper Carlton. The band would go on to be the most successful of their kind, and were the first showband to have a number one single, in 1963 with Brendan Bowyer's 'Kiss Me Quick'.
