Gold for Kilcullen in 2021 Liffey Descent

Kilcullen Canoe Club chairman Michael 'Micko' O'Farrell won a gold medal in the 61st Liffey Descent race which was held on Saturday last, writes Brian Byrne.
He was one of 10 KCC participants in the event, which took place on a 32kms course that started at Straffan and ended at Islandbridge in Dublin.
Micko's gold came in the K1 C Men Class 39+. He completed the course, which involved traversing 10 major weirs, in a time of two hours 36 minutes.
The other KCC paddlers were Mick Carroll, Richard Gallagher, Peter Robinson, Michael McLoughlin, Helen Thompson, Peter Robinson, John Barry, Dave McDonnell, Noel O'Connell. There was also important Weir Rescue Support from Ger Kearin, Darragh Walsh and Oisin Farrell.
Last year's Liffey Descent was cancelled because of covid.
