Weatherday: Electric Ireland

Another dry and very warm day, with sunny spells in a high-cloud haze. Temperatures up to 29deg in very light southerly breeze.

On this day in 1929, the Ardnacrusha Power Station on the Shannon was officially opened. It was the largest hydroelectric scheme in the world until the Hoover Dam was opened in 1936.
