Highly efficient building at Riverside Manor
The first units of a six-home project designated Phase 1B of Riverside Manor are being constructed using a system that is exceptionally efficient, writes Brian Byrne.
The units are prefabricated with a light guage steel frame construction, and come ready with windows and doors installed, and are lowered into place by crane. The BER rating is A2, at the most efficient end of the building energy performance scale.
The contractor is Framespace Ltd in Co Longford, and the homes are for the current Riverside Manor developer, Alchemy Homes (Kilcullen) Ltd.
This phase, utilising infill sites left in Phase 1 of Riverside Manor, comprises two 4-bedroomed detached houses along with four 3-bed semi-detached units. Framespace is also constructing 90 homes in the Phase 2 part of Riverside Manor, again for Alchemy Homes.
The prefabrication system can provide a fully weather-tight structure within hours of commencing installation. There are also health and safety benefits from having a large part of the construction work carried out in a factory-controlled environment.
