Kilcullen Pollinator Group will be providing Borage plants to some of the local estates shortly, giving the wild meadow areas some star quality, writes Brian Byrne.
Also known as bugloss and starflower, Borage a herb that can be used for cooking, but the flowers are 'fantastic for pollinators', says the Group's Paul Leighton, who is currently growing the plant in his greenhouse from seed. "Bumble bees particularly love it, and it will provide a bit of variety."
Originally from the Mediterranean area, Borage has naturalised in many other parts of Europe, including Britain and Ireland.
