Wangiri phone scam operating again

Just a reminder that the so-called Wangiri phone scam is active again, writes Brian Byrne.

The Diary had a quickly-disconnected missed call this morning from a Tunisia number (+216 prefix). Just the latest in a number of such reported lately in the Kilcullen area.

Don't ring back. You'll be charged at premium rate for the dubious pleasure of trying to understand someone speaking in a language you don't know.

Other countries used in the scam include Liberia, Pakistan, and the Cook Islands. But it could be from any number of other countries.

So, remember, NEVER answer a missed call unless you actually know who it was.
