Money allocated for Thompson's Cross safety work

Funding for road safety works at Thompson's Cross has been announced in the 2021 Government allocations for regional and local roads in Kildare, writes Brian Byrne.
The figure is €30,000 from the total amount under the safety allocation for the county of €250,000.
The cross has been a location for a long string of incidents since the junction realignment when the M9 was completed more than a decade ago.
Despite much publicity and representation to Kildare County Council and the NRA, the junction has only been 'fiddled with' instead of a serious attempt at resolving the matter.
Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer and the local Gardai have jointly been working to have the cross made safe since she was elected in 2019.
The overall total roads allocation for Kildare of almost €19m includes €2m for the Athy Distributor Road and €1m for the Sallins Bypass.
