Another crash at Thompson's Cross

There has been another crash at Thompson's Cross, which has been described as 'serious' by Cllr Tracey O'Dwyer, writes Brian Byrne.

The cross has been a location for a long string of incidents since the junction realignment when the M9 was completed more than a decade ago.

Despite much publicity and representation to Kildare County Council and the NRA, the junction has only been 'fiddled with' instead of a serious attempt at resolving the matter.

Cllr O'Dwyer and local gardai have jointly been working to have the cross made safe since she was elected last year, and there is now another application in train for funding under the Low Cost Improvement scheme.

The councillor says this is a first step to having the dangerous junction addressed. "However, given the rate of accidents per month I really hope it doesn’t come too late and a life is tragically lost," she said this morning after the latest incident. "In the interest of public safety I cannot emphasis how important it is for Thompson’s Cross junction to be addressed as a matter of urgency."
