A reminder that the annual Féile Bríde - St Brigid's Festival in Kildare is a series of virtual events this year, writes Brian Byrne.

The week-long festival features a number of presentations by Solas Bhride, beginning last evening with a time of quiet reflection on the eve of St Brigid's day, which could be viewed on the group's Facebook page.

Today, St Brigid's Day, 1 February, between 3pm-4.30pm there will be a discussion on the customs and traditions associated with the saint, with Margaret Walsh and Brenda Kinnegan. Tickets at €11.53 can be booked here on Eventbrite.

A session of reflection and meditation from the Brigid Room at Solas Bhride on 2 February, 7pm-7.30pm, can be booked here for free.

On 3 February, between 7pm-8pm, Rita Minehan CSB will discuss the relevance of Brigid for our time, tickets €11.53.

Another reflection and meditation session on 5 February between 7pm-7.30pm is also free, but needs to be booked.

The Afri Conference, a gathering for reflections, music, poetry and film, will also be online this year. Registration is here.

The Kildare Town Library and Kildare Heritage centre will be presenting a number of festival events, including Weaving Hope into our St Brigid's Cross on 30 January or 1 February; and The Hills Speak - History and Mystery on 4 February.

There will be a table outside the Heritage Centre with some items for passerby's such as daffodil bulbs, potted trees, CD of the guided walk, rose quartz crystals and rushes for making St Brigid crosses. They will have Beth Murphy’s 'Brigid' on the square for people to tie wishes to as they have done in the past. Stories of Brigid told by children will be played in a loop on the day in the square.
