'Missed call' scam is back again
That old 'missed call' scam has returned in the last couple of days, writes Brian Byrne.
Twice during yesterday we got a phone call that rings briefly then shows as a missed call. If we had been tempted to call back, it would have cost us dearly. But we're very wary of any such calls.
The phone prefix shows the origin is in Mali. If you call back you are on a premium very high cost call of which the recipients pocket most of the cost.
Think before you hit any missed call that isn't from someone you know. Note also that different phone numbers are typically used, but in our case both had the +223 Mali prefix. The scam can come from other countries too.
It was last playing around this area back in April.
