World Mental Health Day, keeping it together
This is World Mental Health Day, first celebrated in 1992 as an initiative of the World federation for Mental Health, writes Brian Byrne.
This year's event is against the background of the pandemic, and research presented on RTE's The Next Normal suggested that over a third of the population have struggled with mental health since it began. Mental Health Ireland CEO Martin Rogan said that the timely survey recognised social connection as an important factor in protecting mental health and wellbeing, especially during recent tough times.
For anyone with mental health worries, the national support organisation Aware has a helpline FREEPHONE 1800 80 48 48, open 365 days a year, 10am-10pm.
