Last chance to vote for Hazel's book in Irish Book Awards 2020

A reminder that you have only until tomorrow, 16 November, to vote for Hazel Gaynor's The Bird in the Bamboo Cage in the An Post Irish Book Awards 2020, writes Brian Byrne. The book is shortlisted in the Popular Fiction Category

Voting can be done here, until 16 November. All voters will be entered in a prize draw to win one of five €100 National Book Tokens vouchers.

Because of the pandemic, this year's Awards Ceremony will be online on Wednesday 25 November, and there will be an RTE One television special on 10 December featuring interviews with category winners. During that show, the overall title of An Post Irish Book of the Year 2020 will be announced.

"I won't have the excuse this year to wear my posh frock," Hazel commented to Dawn Behan in the recent A Tale of Three Indies streamed interview for Irish Book Week

"No red carpet, either," Dawn replied.

"Hmm … I'll tell my husband that there has to be a red carpet in the kitchen on the Awards Night," the author said, momentarily bringing the interview to a halt as they doubled over in laughter.
