Entertaining 'A Tale of Three Indies' presentation from Woodbine Books

If you missed out on this evening's Woodbine Books interview with Kilcullen author Hazel Gaynor, you missed more than an hour of really good entertainment, writes Brian Byrne.

Streamed on Zoom as part of a special Irish Books Week collaboration with the Maynooth Bookshop and Antonia's Bookstore in Trim, Co Meath, the event was the first of three 'bookish' events from the A Tale of Three Indies series being offered by the bookshops.

Because of Level 5 restrictions, the interview was pre-recorded last evening in Woodbine Books, but following its screening tonight there was an opportunity for viewers to put questions live to Hazel about writing and books. As part of the programme, both Hazel and Woodbine Books owner Dawn Behan also offered their own suggestions of books to consider buying for Christmas (or lockdown), for both adult and younger readers.

I streamed the event to our TV, and it was a really welcome antidote to much else that is often on that screen. We understand that there will be opportunity on social media to see the interview again.

Meantime, we'll have a fuller report from this episode of A Tale of Three Indies tomorrow, including the book recommendations from tonight's programme.

The programme was co-hosted by Dawn Behan of Woodbine Books; Antonia Daly, owner of Antonia's Bookstore; and Cian Byrne of The Maynooth Bookshop.
