Advice for winter care of wildflower meadows
A guide on the management of a wildflower meadow has been distributed by the Kilcullen Pollinator Group to estates involved in the local pollinator programme, to help them prepare their meadows in advance of winter, writes Brian Byrne.
The guide is in pdf format and can be downloaded here, and is produced with the help fo the National Biodiversity Data Centre and EcoSeeds Wildflowers.
The estates involved were already given wildflower seeds and, recently, some perennial plants, under the scheme.
"Some fantastic work is present in all the estates and areas of the town to create pollinator friendly areas and extend spaces," says Paul Leighton of the Kilcullen Pollinator Group.
He says it's now time to look at the care of these areas for the end of the year, and the guide gives directions on cutting and other things for winter management.
