A little bit of catchup

The Diary was out of town for a few days, and is just catching up on a few things, writes Brian Byrne.

On the food and pubs front it's good to see that the Rainsford family are reopening the Athgarvan Inn on Monday 21 September after their six months' closure.

Also the Final Furlong cafe coming back to life on Wednesday next, 16 September, for limited indoor eating and lots of takeaway options.

Welcome back to The Brown Bear which got back in action on Wednesday, and to Bardons which reopened on Thursday. Hopefully we'll see more positive news from the other local hostelries soon.

For food thoughts today, the savoury menu at Armelle's Kitchen has Chicken, Morel Mushrooms and Asparagus Pie with Puff Pastry topping; Moroccan Lamb Couscous with Ratatouille; Lamb Moussaka; Ham & Mushroom Crêpes; and in Quiches it is Lorraine or Blue Cheese, Courgette & Walnut.

From Kalbarri's now-indoor Bakeshop today there are some amazing freshly made pre-packed meals, soups, breads, tarts and after school snacks.
