Martin Heydon gets Junior Minister appointment
Kildare South TD Martin Heydon has been appointed as a Junior Minister at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, writes Brian Byrne.
He is the first Kildare based Fine Gael Minister in 23 years.
He was first elected to the Dail in 2011, having been previously elected to Kildare County Council in 2009. He was re-elected in the 2016 general election, topping the poll in the constituency. He was re-elected in the 2020 General Election with 17.1pc of first preference votes, behind Patricia Ryan of Sinn Fein who won 21.5pc.
He served as Chair of Fine Gael's Internal Committee on Agriculture and Rural Affairs between 2011 and 2016. He was appointed to the Special Oireachtas Committee on Climate Action in 2018.
He has served as Chairman of the Fine Gael Parliamentary Party since 2016.
