Arts initiative for children with PMLD seeks Kildare families
A magical watery adventure arts initiative is seeking families with children who have Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) in the Kildare area, to have individual performances in their driveway or gardens, writes Brian Byrne.
Sing Me to the Sea is being organised by the Riverbank Arts Centre in conjunction with Anna Newell, a leading theatre maker of innovative plays for diverse audiences. The plan is to bring the performance to three families a day between August 24-28, a total of 15 potential presentations.
Sing Me to the Sea was originally performed in hydropools, with over 100 performances already presented throughout Ireland. Among them one locally at Enable Ireland Naas, where it was presented by Riverbank Arts Centre.
Because of the pandemic situation, the company is now touring a brand new ‘dry-land’ version in August in collaboration with Riverbank. It is performed by three actors and includes live harmony singing of David Goodall compositions and gorgeous costumes designed by Susan Scott.
Anna Newell is based in Bray and was the first Irish-based theatre maker to create theatre designed especially for children and young people with PMLD.
Interested families should contact the Riverbank Arts Centre in the first instance, and a form is available of the Centre's events website.
